10K vs. 14K vs. 18K Gold Grillz: How to Choose
10K, 14K and 18K describe how much gold is in the alloy: about 41.7%, 58.3% and 75%, respectively. For custom grillz, choose your design and tooth coverage first, then compare the available karats for that same configuration. A higher karat tells you the gold content; it does not determine the fit of your custom piece.
10K vs. 14K vs. 18K at a glance
| Karat | Gold | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| 10K | About 41.7% | The starting price for your chosen design and tooth count. |
| 14K | About 58.3% | The price difference for a higher gold content. |
| 18K | 75% | The highest gold content of these three options. |
Karat expresses gold content out of 24 parts. The remaining portion consists of other metals. GIA explains the relationship between gold purity, alloys and color. Those material definitions apply to gold jewelry generally; that source is not a recommendation about wearing grillz.
Compare the same grillz configuration
A six-tooth 10K grill and a single-tooth 18K design are different products. Their prices cannot tell you the cost of upgrading the karat alone. To make a useful comparison:
- Open one design, such as our Custom Solid Gold Grillz.
- Keep the same top and bottom tooth counts.
- Compare the available 10K, 14K and 18K selections.
- Keep the same metal color, finish and any optional work.
- Review the required mold kit and the final cart total before checkout.
If a product does not offer your preferred combination, ask our team about the design before ordering. Available selections on the product page determine what you can purchase online.
Gold color and karat are separate choices
Yellow, white and rose describe appearance; 10K, 14K and 18K describe gold content. Alloy composition and surface finishes can affect the color. A photograph or color name alone does not establish purity or the full metal composition. Check both the material and finish on the product you select.
Some Cali Grillz listings also offer .925 sterling silver. That is a separate base material, even when a gold-colored finish is available. Read our solid gold versus plated grillz guide if you are comparing those options.
Build the complete budget
The selected product price is one part of a custom order. Review tooth coverage, finish, stones and any additional work along with the required mold-kit selection. Our current required kit options are $11 for one row or $22 for top and bottom, charged per product. Shipping and any applicable taxes are shown during checkout.
For example, compare a 10K and 14K selection with the same tooth count and the same one-row kit. Do not compare the lower starting price of one design with the fully configured price of another. The complete grillz cost guide explains what to include in your budget.
Karat does not replace the custom-fit process
Your removable custom grillz are made using your impression. Choosing 18K instead of 10K does not remove the mold step or guarantee a particular fit. Follow the kit instructions and contact our team if you need help before returning your impression.
Our usual production estimate for gold or silver grillz is 5–7 business days after usable molds arrive; diamond grillz usually take 2–3 weeks. These are production estimates, not delivery promises from the purchase date. See the molds, production and delivery guide for the separate stages.
Common questions
Is 10K gold real gold?
10K is a gold alloy with about 41.7% gold. A solid 10K gold option is different from a gold-plated base metal. Always read the selected product's material description.
Which karat should I choose for my first grillz?
Start with the design, tooth coverage and total budget you want. Compare the available karats without changing those other choices. There is no single best option for every customer.
Does a higher karat mean a better fit?
No. Gold content and fit are separate considerations. Your impression, selected design and the custom production process matter for fit.
